PISTOL, WITH FN TYPE FLATBOARD STOCK/HOLSTER. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 6161. Bbl. 4 3/4". The Belgian Army was the first armed force to issue High Power pistols as its regulation sidearm. This example was in the first batch of delivered pistols and has all of the earliest features that include a drift adj. front sight and slip-in rear sight graduated from 50-500 whereby the numbers only occupy the rear half of the sight bar. Left side of slide with the usual 3-line FN address reflecting the mfg., location in Herstal, and a reference to Browning's patent. The right side of the bbl. is marked with the cal. The full S# appears internally and repeated on the right side of the slide and frame. Usual Belgian proofs on the bbl., slide, and frame, in addition to the Belgian Army encircled "H" that also appears on the cardinal parts. Disassembly shows the bottom of the lug numbered "1828" (significance unknown), while the inner slide is marked with an underscored "20" a numeration that was applied by FN, usually referencing a prototype or a gun retained in the factory for the purpose of future comparison. As per the Belgian Army pistols, the frame has a slotted backstrap and fitted with checkered walnut panels with a generous border and an internal reddish stain. Mag. has an aluminum follower, phosphate body with an encircled "H" on back of spine, and a split tail floorplate. MAGS: 1 13-rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: accompanied by a post-war Odin International assembled stock with original FN lug, holster, and looped plate, the board stock having been made as an aftermarket item. CONDITION: pistol with 85-90% original finish, with typical wear pattern reflecting moderate service use. Comparable condition grips and mag. Dull bore with easily discernible rifling. Correct manual mechanics. Excellent shoulder stock with attached holster, the holster with scuffing as imaged. A very attractive ensemble, especially interesting when noting the underscored "20" inside the slide to suggest a factory retained pistol for purpose of comparison. (25-3462/LMA). CURIO. $1,750-2,750.
