SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH BOX & MANUAL. Cal. 9x19mm Parabellum. S# 9515y. Bbl. 4". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser in 1937 for the German military. The bbl. extension is marked "1937" over the top of the chamber, with Mauser Eagle/63 proofs marked on the right. Toggle is marked with Mauser's "S/42" mfg. code. Metal components exhibit a salt blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Dovetailed serrated blade front sight, with fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, rear toggle pin, as well as the grips. Sideplate is possibly a replacement, exhibiting a much higher polished blue finish. MAGS: 1 non-matching 8-rd. mag. (S# 4707k), with aluminum bottom. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: wood case (possibly period) marked with some partially discernible text on the sliding lid, which appears to read "Walther Giese/ Major", with the remainder of the text blending with the painted black band at the center of the lid. Case contains a period commercial Luger manual in English. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original arsenal salt blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, with scattered superficial handling marks and some light surface oxidation present overall. Sides of grip straps exhibit mild to moderate areas of pitting, with some pitting also present on the edges of the grip straps that run along the grips. Mirror bore, exhibiting some light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips are very good, showing some areas of light smoothing and a few minor superficial handling marks overall. Wood case is very good overall, with some marks from handling and storage, as well as some age related discoloration. Manual has separated at the spine, exhibiting a previously tape repair, some wear, and some age related discoloration. A nice and honest example of a 1937 Mauser production P.08 Luger. (25-1430/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
