ACTION RIFLE. Early Sportsmodell V single shot bolt action rifle mfg. by Walther. Left side of the bbl. is marked with an eagle proof, followed by a Crown/N commercial nitro proof, and "Nitro", with Crown/B, Crown/U, Crown/G proofs (Crown/B and Crown/U proofs repeated on right side of receiver and top of bolt) and the cal. designation marked on the right. Top of the receiver is marked with the Walther banner logo (horizontally), above a vertically marked "Waffenfabrik Walther Zella-Meglis (Thur.). Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the end of the bolt assembly, which is polished in-the-white. 1-piece finger grooved rnd. knob stock with finely checkered black synthetic Walther banner logo buttplate. Toeline of stock and underside of forearm feature sling swivels, fitted with a German WWII pattern brown leather sling. Stock appears to have been lightly sanded and refinished. Ramped and dovetailed blade front sight with dovetailed adj. V-notch rear sight. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning fading to brown patina (when viewed beneath a flashlight), scattered spots of light surface oxidation, as well as scattered superficial handling marks overall. Top rear of bolt, bolt knob, and trigger guard bow exhibit areas of wear fading to gray patina. Mirror bore, exhibiting some small scattered spots of light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Stock shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sound. Edges of buttplate exhibit a layer of lacquer applied over cracks / splits that are present on the left and right edges. (26-2671/MLW). CURIO. $350-500.
