PILOT'S INSIGNIAS. 1) Pre WWI French pilot's badge measures approx 2 1/8" x 1 1/2". This pre-1916 badge has a silver-finished wreath with gold-plated wings and star. It depicts a pair of bird wings with a single star above, superimposed over an oak leaf wreath. The rear of the badge has two loops, and the wreath is numbered "15379" with a script "B" in an oval before the number. The badge is housed in a dark red leather case with a Parisan crest on the outside of the lid. CONDITION: badge shows light overall wear. (02-22993/BF). 2) WWI era French pilot's insignia measures approx. 3" x 2". The insignia appears to be gilded brass and depicts a large winged propeller. The rear of the badge has three of four flat pins attached. CONDITION: badge generally shows light wear and has a pleasing degree of tarnish. (02-23000/BF). 3) WWI era French pilot's insignia measures approx. 2 3/4" x 1 3/8". The insignia appears to be gilded brass and depicts a winged propeller. The rear of the badge has a nearly full-length, horizontal, hinged pin. CONDITION: badge generally shows light wear but does have spots of dark oxidation. (02-23001/BF). $600-900.
