BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 30-06 (marked "30 U.S.G. 1906"). S# 175180. Commercial sporter rifle utilizing Mauser Oberndorf receiver (S# 34994, receiver mfg. approx. 1911). Half round, half oct. 24.5" barrel. Blade front sight, filled dovetail on rib for rear sight & Lyman aperture receiver sight installed on ejector / bolt release lever. Matted rib on barrel engraved "MOD. MAUSER: J.P. SAUER & SON". Mauser 98 receiver with matching numbered bolt & other small parts. Double set triggers. Floorplate has lever latch. Walnut schnable tipped sporter stock with forearm edge, checkered at wrist, steel grip cap, Bavarian cheekpiece, sling eye, & toeline German silver nameplate. LOP: 14" to checkered steel buttplate. CONDITION: Portions of barrel have old reblued finish fading & mixed with brown/gray patina on forward portions of barrel & receiver ring area along with scattered scratches & marks. Floorplate has half good blue finish with tip along with floorplate silvering from carry wear. Triggerguard bow has silvering & bronze tone. Flag safety on cocking knobs heavily worn. Wood has an old sanded & refinish showing worn checkering, large deep gouge in wrist, finish loss spots on comb along with scattered marks. Good bore with strong rifling & light wear to lands.
