MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 8x57 Mauser. S# B59363. Numbers match on the receiver, bbl., and trigger guard. Bbl. 23 3/4". This Standard Modell short rifle was produced after 1933, and it was used for police and security duty, as well as being sold worldwide. The receiver ring is marked with the Mauser banner and the left rail is marked "STANDARD-MODELL." Receiver ring also carries the "B G U N" proofs. Replacement bolt with straight bolt handle; bolt is marked underneath with a Weimar eagle. Tangent rear sight, graduated to 2000 meters; inverted V front sight. Bayonet bar is present. European walnut stock set; stock has grasping grooves and bottom swivels. H-type upper band has parade hook. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 9 7/8" fullered blade bayonet. Bayonet is marked on the left ricasso "S/174", marked on the right ricasso "36C, and marked on top of the blade "37." Pommel has two "WAA235" marks. Matching steel scabbard carries markings identical to the bayonet. Bayonet has 60% of its original blue on the blade, with thinning and light wear; the balance of metal is turning gray in patina. Bayonet has been sharpened. Grips have light wear, staining, and several tiny cracks. Scabbard has traces of blue turning gray in patina. CONDITION: stock set has light wear with moderate scattered handling marks, with a notable filled knot in the cheek area. Metal retains a very large percentage of its arsenal-reworked blue finish, with light wear and scattered scratches. Near excellent, shiny bore. PROVENANCE: the Estate Collection of Charles Wagner.
