Cal. .223. S# CH008229. Bbl. 20". Colt Sporter Competition HBAR in the transitional configuration. During this period, when the federal government started incorrectly categorizing firearms as "assault weapons", which eventually led up to the ban on their manufacture in 1994, companies started making subtle changes in order to placate politicians. This rifle is one such example where it was manufactured without a bayonet lug, even though there was no such legislation mandating it. Colt also started blind-pinning a block inside the lower receiver, which made it impossible to utilize a drop-in auto-sear or lightning link without modifications to the gun; to coincide with that block, the bolt carrier had to be entirely slotted, such as in this example. The 20" barrel is threaded, terminated with an A2 flash hider, and marked "C MP 556 NATO 1/9 HBAR." Protected post-front sight / gas block. The full-length A2 handguards are retained with a tapered delta ring. Flat-top upper receiver with removable carry handle, round forward assist, and brass deflector. E2 adjustable, dual-aperture rear sight. Left-side controls. Full-length buttstock with trap door, containing cleaning kit. Bottom-mounted sling swivels, front & rear. MAGS: 1 AdventureLine 30 rd. CONDITION: Finish coverage is complete and consistent with little sign of use. There is no typical marking on the brass deflector, which happens quickly. Bore is bright with strong rifling. The fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. PROVENANCE: the collection of Curtis H. Halvorson. (23-5951/JZ). MODERN. $700-1,000.
