Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 4578d. Bbl. 23 1/2". Blade front sight. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. Floorplate and replacement cleaning rod are unnumbered. Other visible parts are matching to the receiver, with many bearing the correct "(Eagle)/63" inspection stamps. Receiver top has "S/42" Mauser marking and 1937 date. Blued finish. Walnut stock set with left side sling provisions and leather K98k sling. Stock has strong Weimar and WWII German inspection stamps. CONDITION: stock set has arsenal oil finish with scattered dings, scratches, and handling marks. Metal retains 80% original blue with scattered fading to brown, some light oxidation, and edge wear. Action functions properly when hand-cycled. Very good, bright bore with some light frosting. PROVENANCE: from the collection of Mark Ivey Godfrey. (24-5230/MJC). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
