MARK I VIETNAM ERA MILITARY PUMP SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 GA, 2 3/4". S# S087652V. Bbl. 21" with fixed MOD. choke. Shotgun falls within the range of documented 870 Mark I shotguns (S081347V to S127697V). Differences in this particular shotgun and information obtained from "COMBAT SHOTGUNS" by Canfield are as follows: bolt is parkerized as opposed to a black oxide finish. Lower left of receiver is roll stamped "U.S. Property". With just over 3,200 firearms produced to the 870 Mark I configuration and none having been officially released to to U.S. market, it is hard to say whether this is an original 870 Mark I that has gone through an arsenal rebuild or if this is an exemplary upgrade done at the hands of a master gunsmith knowing that they just do not appear in the market. Black oxide ramp mounted bead front sight, on the bayonet lug, with elevator adjustable black oxide V-notch rear sight. Mag. has an added extension with a 7-rd. capacity +1 in the chamber. Left side of receiver is marked "U.S. PROPERTY". Metal has a "Parco-Lubrite" parkerized style finish. Finger grooved walnut forend and pistol grip stock, with correct plastic buttplate. OD green web sling on original swivels. This special version of the 870 was developed for the U.S. Marine Corps. and was standardized in the Spring of 1969. The first significant combat use of the Mark I shotgun occurred in May of 1975, when the American ship Mayaquez was captured in international waters by hostile Cambodian forces. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Imperial mfg. U.S. M7 bayonet. CONDITION: over 95% metal finish, showing light slide wear. Stocks have good satin finish, showing a few small marks. Very good bright bore. (25-1664/DS). CURIO. $3,500-5,500.
