These balls all made for wood time fuse fired from mostly Napoleon cannon, but field howitzers or any 12 pounder gun could shoot them. Recently discovered in hoard at New York armory, stored captured Confederate cannon balls lost to time. There are several varieties with round cavities and at least one in this group with polygonal cavity. The polygonal cavity shells broke into exact 5-sided fragments, later copied in hand grenade design in the 20th century. Before discovery individual non-excavated CS shells like this were very scarce and expensive. Here is your chance to buy a most displayable stand of Confederate shells. CONDITION: very good, iron patina. (02-16901/JS). $4,000-5,000.
