PISTOL BY, T. PEELE. Cal. 50. S# NSN. The 9" screw off barrel with turned ring at muzzle is unmarked. The 3-1/2" breech section is stamped with London black powder proofs and has some foliate engraving. Early style flint lock with long rounded plate has round bodied serpentine cock, integral round pan, unbridled friction frizzen and feather spring with acorn finial. Lock has some simple scroll engraving with "PEELE" at center (T. working in Whitehaven, Cumberland, Great Britain 1720-60). European walnut half stock with knob grip has raised carved mouldings and scroll behind top tang and is brass mounted with short spurred grip cap, double beaded trigger guard with husk finial and long multi-pierced scrolling sideplate. An unmarked fancy crestplate is at top of grip. CONDITION: fair to good. Iron and steel showing extensive cleaning and wear over the years are presently pitted silver gray. Brass is cleaned, beginning to tone. Stock shows considerable repairs at grip with some replaced wood under lockplate. Bore is dark. Working lock has weak feather spring.
