SADDLE. A fine original handcrafted saddle by R.T. Frazier from Pueblo, Colorado. This example likely dates between 1900-1915 and appears quite complete. Robert T. Frazier was born at Colorado Springs, Colorado in the year 1850 and he formed a partnership with S. C. Gallup around 1892. Frazier achieved notoriety for being one of the first saddlemakers to use mail catalogs which made the Frazier saddles famous nationwide. In the year 1917, he was considered to be the largest manufacturer of stock saddles in the country. Frazier became famous for his trademark phrase, "Builder of the Famous Pueblo Saddle". At one point in time, Frazier employed over 50 professional saddle makers. This saddle is marked at the front of the seat in an oval, "R.T. FRAZIER MAKER PUEBLO, COLO." With the same impressed oval mark being seen on each fender. The rear of the seat is marked in a circle, "R.T. FRAZIER PUEBLO R'G'D. TRADEMARK". The saddle itself is tooled on the back with edge decoration throughout. The saddle bags at the rear have a tooled floral decoration. Seat size is 14". CONDITION: saddle is quite impressive in appearance and generally shows light wear overall. Marks are crisp but decoration is a bit worn. Overall, an impressive piece. (02-16903/BF). $1,500-2,500.
