PERSUSSION PISTOL WITH CASE. Cal. 44. S# 19. The heavy iron barrel is designed to take superimposed loads like all weapons of Lindsay design. Barrel is octagonal at breech and transitions to round. Top of breech marked "LINDSAY'S" "YOUNG AMERICA" "PATENTED OCT. 9. 1860". S# 19 stamped on bottom of barrel and bronze frame. Frame fitted with two case hardened hammers which are fired in the correct sequence with a single trigger. Frame unmarked except for S#. Varnished grips are two piece and of walnut. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: pistol is housed in mahogany case with key lock closure which is lined in brown velvet. Pistol fits well and case is possibly original. Case contains zinc bodied powder flask embossed with scrolls and dogs. A Japanned oval cap tin and a GAR medal with star suspended by a flag from eagle on crossed cannons. Also included is a GAR button. CONDITION: good to very good. Barrel shows scant traces of blue under smooth gray brown overall patina. A good amount of case hardening remains on hammers. Bronze frame is unpolished and exhibits fine patina. Grips retain most of their original varnish. Bore is shiny. Mechanically good. Case retains most of its exterior varnish heavily crazed and with many marks. Interior cloth is good. Accessories are good. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (01-22388/MGM). ANTIQUE. $7,000-9,000.
