CONTRACT FLINTLOCK MUSKET, REGIMENTALLY MARKED. Cal.70. S# 112. Bbl. 44". Under the Militia Act of 1797, Pennsylvania contracted for muskets, Owen Evans had contract for 1,200 guns which were all delivered by 1801, marked "No. 112" on top of buttplate. Bbl. proofs at breech only partially discernible but unit marking further down reads "5 Co 84. REGt. PENa. M". CONDITION: good overall, appears mostly original incl. flint configuration & complete other than missing rear sling swivel, front & rear bands appear replaced w/ different color & poor fit of front band. Bbl. has sm. added front sight in addition to one on front band. Stock refinished & front band spring mortise filled & spring moved. Metal mixed mostly dark patina, rear band is gray. Mechanics are fine w/ period relined frizzen, clear pitted smooth bore. (01-17222/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
