FLINTLOCK MUSKET & BAYONET. Cal. 69. NSN. Standard configuration of type III model 1795 (made 1809-1814), 45” barrel stamped top of breech “US” & proofed on left “P / eaglehead / V”. Pointed tail lock dated 1810, script “US” over eagle & “SPRINGFIELD" in arc. Battery with flat cock with heart shaped cutout, integral round bottom pan, faceted frizzen face with medial ridge with curved tail, frizzen spring terminates in triangular finial. Walnut stocked with 3 spring retained bands, buttplate dated “1810” on top. “LS” inspection rear of triggerguard. Bayonet has 16” blade inspected with “JA” & “US” & 2 punch marks. Less than 10,000 1810 muskets were made; few survive in original flint configuration. CONDITION: good to very good overall, original flint, replaced later frizzen with curved tail, ramrod is cut with smaller diameter button head. Metal cleaned to bright, sharp markings other than eagle on lock weak. Stock is refinished, varnished, and old repair to broken wrist with screw & wood dowels & inset. Lock function is sloppy, pitted clear smooth bore. Bayonet fits musket with good marks and darker iron surface. (01-22760/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
