UNIQUE CANTON DESIGN. 36x62" All hand sewn light weight single ply wool bunting, 18x36" canton w/ 3 horizontal rows arranged 5:3:5 sewn-through 4" cotton stars, 1.5" linen hoist w/ 2 hand whipped eyelets. Flag shows very good seamstress skills w/ reinforced wear panels at corners. The canton design 5:3:5 and 1:2 ratio height:length is most unusual. Materials utilized are all Civil War or earlier including threads. Sewing school is typical of Civil War or earlier w/ flat-fell seams, finished fly edge & selvage edges on top & bottom stripes Rectangular cantons are typically seen on earlier flags, 5:3:5 arrangement of stars is only shown once in Grace Cooper’s “Thirteen Stars'' similar to Revolutionary War era Guilford NC Courthouse Battle Flag. This flag is freshly found in Ohio estate. CONDITION: good to very good overall, bright colors, scattered small reductions especially at fly end and top and bottom stripes, cotton stars have staining & scattered small holes unaffecting aesthetic.
