Bowie type blade with unstopped fullers has a sharpened edge at the top rear of the blade back. The blade measures 9" and the bayonet measures 13 3/4" overall. These bayonets were officially called: combination knife bayonet and intrenching tool. 2000 were ordered on May 12, 1900. It is thought that as many as 5000 were actually completed. The bayonet received mixed reviews and were disposed of prior to world war 1. These bayonets are very scarce today. The left ricasso is marked "1900" and the right ricasso is marked "US". The crossguard and handle are the same as a standard Krag bayonet with riveted Walnut scales. The curved steel scabbard has a ball finial and is equipped with the double wire belt hook which has a limited oscillation. CONDITION: the bright blade has turned somewhat grey with small spots of oxidation and light wear. The balance of the metal has turned overall grey and patina. Scales have moderate wear and handling marks. There is a notable chip on the bottom of the left scale. Blade remains unsharpened. Scabbard retains 70% of its thinning lightly worn blue with several scattered spots of light oxidation. (02-23923/RW). NON GUN.$ 1500-2000.
