DOUBLE SHOTGUN WITH ONE PIECE BARRELS. Cal. 16 Ga. 2-9/16". S# 640. This beautifully made and elegant little gun has 29-1/8" barrels milled from one block of steel, as was first achieved and patented by Whitworth in 1857. Longthorn's of England currently produces fine bespoke guns with barrels made by this same process, which offers even cooling, absence of bottom rib and central voids in barrels there by reducing weight. The barrels on this gun feature flat matted top rib marked "Waffenfabrik Steyr" in milled out portion of rib, which is also marked "2". "2" is also found on top lever and on ejector housing of forend. Barrel flats are stamped with 1911 Vienna nitro proofs and "NICHT FUR KUGEL". Choke markings "C 16.0" are stamped on bottoms of barrels. Loop is milled integral with barrels and sling loop is on block which is soldered into deep machined areas between barrels. Nicely filed rounded bar sidelock action features toggling automatic safety ("S" in gold), hidden crossbolt third fastener, bushed strikers, gold band tumbler end cocking indicators and double triggers. Fences are nicely filed with extended tear drops similar to those found on guns by Stephen Grant. Action and lockplates are engraved with very nicely cut open scroll which surrounds a number of small semi-relief rose bouquets. "WAFFENFABRIK" "STEYR" is engraved in an arch on each lockplate. Steel trigger guard is also scroll engraved. Round knob pistol grip buttstock made of nicely stump figured dense European walnut measures 13-3/4" over fully checkered horn buttplate. Stock features shadow line right hand cheekpiece, nicely cut point pattern grip checkering and a sling loop on toeline. Matching splinter ejector forend is near fully checkered and has forward pivoting lever release. Ejector housing is bright polished and engraved with "2". MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .657. R .658. Restriction: L .025 (IMod). R .027 (IMod). Wall thickness: L .030. R .020. (along top of barrel 12" from muzzle). STOCK: DAH: 2-1/2". DAC: 1-1/2". CAST: neutral. LOP: 13-3/4". WEIGHT: 6 lb. 2 oz. CONDITION: very fine. Barrels retaining nearly all of what appears to be original blue but may have been touched up where some scratches are present. Action and lockplates retain most of their original muted case hardening color with some silvering on lock tails and fences. Triggers retain nearly all of their original bright polish and blue of top lever shows silvering on thumb piece. Stocks retain nearly all of their original oil finish with some knocks and dings. Checkering is very lightly worn. Bores are bright and shiny throughout without noted problems. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors somewhat out of time. A delightful little gun. (25-2477/MGM). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
