FLINTLOCK MUSKET R&C LEONARD, CANTON MA. Cal. 69. NSN. Bbl. 43 3/4". Marked with "MS" and "V". Relief oval cartouche w/ "eagle head / CT". Lock is marked with "eagle / us / R&C LEONARD". Tail marked "CANTON / 1813" in vertical arcs. Inspection initials are stamped on bottom of stock behind trigger guard. "MS" is stamped at rear of sideplate. Double throat cock. Top jaw and screw are replacements. Walnut stock equipped with three bands retained by springs. Double strap upper band carries brass front sight. Middle band equipped with swivel. Iron ramrod. Rear swivel mounted ahead of trigger guard bow. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: paperwork includes copy of previous auction description, biography of Gary Parietti and collection index. CONDITION: original finish stock has large crack below front of lockplate & has the wear with numerous scratches and handling marks expected from a military arm over 200 years old. Metal, while retaining legible markings, has turned an overall patina with areas of fine pitting. Mechanics are fine. Dark oxidized bore with shallow pitting. (01-28473/RW). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,000.
