Cal. 69. NSN. Asa Waters made Model 1842 percussion muskets from mostly surplus and condemned national armory parts. He sold this musket most likely to South Carolina. He was paid for 640 muskets November 1853. This musket conforms to the pattern 1842, 57.5" overall, 42" smoothbore barrel proofed with VP/eaglehead and “B” inspector on left breech. Lockplate is a reconfigured from Model 1840 flintlock. Is undated and simply marked in two lines vertically on the tail "A.H.WATERS & Co." / "MILBURY MASS". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 1999 John Ewing article on these name Waters contract muskets. CONDITION: good to very good overall, complete and original, good mechanics, dark smooth bore. Well fit stock, stamped “DD” opposite lock. (01-23107/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,000-2,000.
