This rare and desirable knife measures 13 3/4" overall with an 8 1/2" blade with a 3 1/2" false edge. John, Charles, and Richard Buck were born and trained in knifesmithing in the famous British city of Sheffield. They established themselves in the town of Worcester, Massachusetts around 1850 and produced some of the finest side knives carried by Union soldiers in the American Civil War. This example is stamped on the blade horizontally "BUCK BROTHERS CAST STEEL". There is a double lobe crossguard that appears brass but was likely plated at one time. The ferrule and rivets also appear to be plated brass. The 1-piece grip appears to be tightly grain walnut and the sheath is leather with a diagonal belt loop. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: information about Buck Brothers knives. CONDITION: blade shows light wear with a very tiny chip to the edge. Hilt shows light wear except for a small splinter missing that extends from the top for about 1". Sheath is quite strong and shows very light wear. (02-25888/BF). NON-GUN. $3,000-4,000.
