AN UNASSOCIATED BELT.
1) BAYONET. A very scarce example of a Southern saber bayonet similar to 115 type 3 in Hardin’s Bayonet Book. This bayonet has long been associated with Confederate shotguns and conventional wisdom has is likely being made in or around New Orleans. Bayonet measures 27” overall with a 4 1/2" hilt and a 22 1/2" blade. The yataghan blade has a single fuller near the spine. Solid brass hilt with simple cross guard showing quillons on both sides. Ribbed grip is hollow reducing the weight of the bayonet. Original spring is missing. Stud on pommel is intact. CONDITION: blade has a dark overall patina and the tip is a bit rounded. Cross guard bends back toward the pommel slightly. As stated, the spring is missing.
2) BELT. A cotton web belt with a tan painted iron buckle. Belt has a leather frog-like assembly at the base supported by 4 iron split ribbons. CONDITION: cotton belt is a bit dirty. Overall, belt shows light wear. (02-17816-1/BF). $1,000-1,600.
