REVOLVER. Cal. 38 Spl. S# 603045. Bbl. 6" marked "HEAVY BARREL" (available 1937 to early 1940's) with elevation adjustable Patridge sight blade plus 1926 last patent date; frame mounted windage adjustable rear sight. Mfg. 1937 with special features to include wide arched checkered hammer along with checkered faced trigger. Backstrap checkered with additional rare option of being sandblasted prior to finishing; area around hammer and top strap also matte finished. Remaining surfaces with normal bluing, including butt, front strap and trigger guard area. Correct checkered walnut grips to include checkering above its silver Colt medallions; grips changed to Coltwood in 1949. Markings on barrel also bordered by Maltese cross symbols as done 1930-1949. Period of most barrel variations was 1932-1939 per Wilson's book on Colts. Butt neatly stamped "C. P. P. T." (unknown meaning). CONDITION: very light marks on all screw slots but overall very good appearance. Slight thinning on high edges plus along right side of barrel. Small spot of peppery oxidation on right side of frame by trigger pivot. Good grips with small chip at bottom rear of right plus "L" on bottom of left. Indexing slightly off, but completes with full trigger pull. Near excellent bore. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Curtis H. Halvorson. (23-5876/NW). CURIO. $500-750.
