ARMY OF REPUBLIC OF TEXAS TYPE. Cal. 44. S# 427. Bbl. 32.25" this rifle is pictured and described on pages 62-63 and 198 in Wilson & Levett “Colt Paterson Book”. This is the type of rifle with improved loading lever of which the Army of Republic of Texas purchased late in 1839. S# 427 has all the improvements seen on the ring lever models including large capping channel on right side of frame and double wedged frame. This rifle saw hard use but has survived functional and intact with good markings. Patent markings on top barrel flat have “snake and star” terminating before and after “Patent Arms M’g. Co. Paterson N. J.--Colts Pt”. CONDITION: good overall, appears matching and original. Matching S# 427 visible on barrel, loading arm, cylinder, cylinder collar, and forward wedge. Barrel is cleaned now light mottled gray/brown, cylinder has partially discernible rolled scene of centaur and horseman. Rear wedge is restored though double groove, forward wedge is original with matching serial number. Stock has been refinished with old wrist repair including 2 round insets on right side between tangs. Mechanically functional though cylinder does not lock properly, it still cocks and fires. Good discernible rifling in worn bore. (01-18831/JS). ANTIQUE. $20,000-30,000.
