Cal. 42. S# 712. 44” Overall, 25” oct. bbl. marked “ADDRESS / P W PORTER / NEW YORK” & “P.W. PORTER’S / PATENT 1851”. This is the 3rd & last model of turret rifle that chambers pointed in every direction including back at shooter. Chain fires were not uncommon on these early 1850s percussion arms, & it took a brave man to shoot one. This was also one of the earliest lever action firearms. CONDITION: fair-good overall, mostly original & complete, restoration to mechanics, replaced latch, welded repair to lever. Stock is sound w/ heavy wear, large well patinaed chip adjacent to frame. Metal has iron patina, cleaner & smoother where restored. Mechanics need attention, cyl. rotates, but bar hammer will not hold cock. Discernible rifling in pitted bore. (01-21360/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
