TWINS! Early 19th century, New England. Each example in cream paint with curved crest rail joined to three swelled spindles flanked by flattened stiles with "thumb" shaped ears. The arms are cylindrical with rod supports centering a nicely formed saddle seat and raised on splayed cylindrical legs. The frontal legs are joined by a flat footrest. The four legs are joined by a box stretcher. Each crest rail is decorated by a floral spray; one with blue flowers, the second with pink flowers. We feel certain that this denotes that they were made for fraternal twins (twins; boy and girl). SIZE: 33" h overall x 17" w x 16" d. CONDITION: very fine. Good old paint and decoration, shows use. (05-237/JJ). $450-850.
