KNIFE ONE OF THE FINER EXAMPLES KNOWN. 15" overall, 10 1/8" clip point blade stamped "J. ENGLISH / & HUBERS" on one ricasso, the other "SHEFFIELD WORKS" in an arc over "2" denoted size. This is the largest English & Hubers, there is no "1". Classic 1830s manufactured bowie, coffin shaped studded ivory grip, 3 1/2" steel Crossguard with ribbed round finials, complete with original German silver mounted tooled leather scabbard with animal head frog button. This iconic pattern has always been prized by knife collectors, most had rosewood grips with brass mountings, ivory is rare, and this is among the finest or few survivors. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copy of manufacturer's history from Norm Flayderman's iconic text "THE BOWIE KNIFE". CONDITION: very good-fine overall, complete & original, blade retains much of its original Polish and luster, excellent sharp tip. The blade has been sharpened. Marking are crisp and as fine as can be found. Grip has ivory patina with small hairlines. Sheath is sound & solid, leather has craquelure and loss of polished surfaces on one side, open seam, both German silver mounts are fine with patching patina to grip mounts.
