PISTOL. Cal. 22 LR. S# 940. Bbl. 7 1/2". 1 of only an estimated 1,000 .22 LR target pistols mfg. by Franz Stock in Berlin Germany, as according to Unblinking Eye by Ed Buffaloe & Ed Dittus. Unbeknown to most, the Franz Stock was the first .22 LR target shooting pistol mfg. in Germany, with Walther entering the market about two years later. The left side of the slide is marked "FRANZ STOCK-BERLIN. D.R.P.", followed by a Crown/B commercial proof, which is repeated on the left side of the bbl. Left side of the frame is marked with the S# "940". Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with the trigger exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered black synthetic grips marked "STOCK". Fixed blade front sight, with dovetailed square notch rear sight. MAGS: 1 approx. 8-rd. mag. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that are fading to gray patina, as well as scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation overall. Trigger retains traces of its nitre blue finish in protected areas. Very bright bore, exhibiting a few small spots of light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout.
