SUBMACHINE GUN. Cal. 45 ACP. S# 798. Bbl. 9". Gordon Ingram's second SMG design started life in 1947. Though its outwards appearance shared characteristics of the highly popular Thompson, upon closer inspection it was a very different design all together. Rather than utilizing expensive milled & fitted parts, Ingram took the direction of sheet metal stampings to reduce cost and improve mass production capabilities. The new SMG was originally full auto only, though by the time they went into production they were offered as select fire. An interesting feature of the M6 is that while it has a safety/selector above the trigger on the right side of receiver, if its set to the full auto setting the operator can switch modes of fire simply by pressure utilized on trigger. A short trigger pull functions as semi auto & must be released & squeezed again to fire a following round, where a full pull to the rear achieves full auto fire until the trigger is released. There were 3 models offered, including the Police, the Guard & the Military; each having their own definitive characteristics. This model, the Police model, w/ its vertical fore grip & finned bbl. mostly resemble the Thompson SMG. The receiver is a rnd., tubular design & trigger group is protected by a lg. rectangular metal guard. Charging is accomplished utilizing the handle on the right side of the receiver where a safety slot is incorporated towards the rear. Front sight is fixed blade & rear sight is elevation adj. buckhorn style. There are 15 fins on bbl. above the vertical front grip. Rear grip is incorporated into the stock & all are a reddish dark stained hardwood. Steel buttplate. MAGS: 1 steel 30 rd. CONDITION: all exposed metal surfaces are finished in typical a deep, dark blue, retaining complete coverage. Some very gentle patina in tiny spots visible under close inspection. Front vertical grip & shoulder stock both exhibit only a few light impressions, retaining nice finish coverage. Marking on top of receiver has been filled w/ an attractive white for ease of reading. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. Bore is shiny w/ aggressive rifling. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-1894/JZ). CURIO CLASS III. $7,000-10,000.
