Cal. 7.65mm. S# 2856. Bbl. 3 3/8". In the 1940s Bunji Hamada designed a blowback pistol based on the FN Model 1910 whose mag. capacity was increased from 7 to 9 cartridges. Following the assembly and approval of prototypes, Japan Gun Company LTD. of Tokyo made approx. 5,000 pistols between 1941-1944 that were S# 1-5,000. This example is a mid-production gun with a 3 3/8" bbl. and a slide with a fixed serrated front sight and a drift adj. rear sight, the only marking being the S# on the right side that is repeated in full on the back strap. Slide is unusual in not having the circular recess on the left side. Fitted with checkered walnut panels and a butt release detachable mag. with 8-indicator holes and a square toe removable floorplate, logo marked the 7.65mm caliber. MAGS: 1 9-rd. CONDITION: G-VG the slide having mellowed to a etched, uniform gray/brown. The frame and associated parts retaining 80% of their original blue. Grips oil darkened with blunted checkering showing no splits. Comparable condition mag., the floorplate with lightly applied remarking. Bright bore with easily discernible rifling. Correct manual mechanics, though disassembly shows the firing pin guide rod is missing its locking tab. An extremely difficult to find WWII Japanese pistol well suited to the serious collector. (25-3465/LMA). CURIO. $7,500-9,500.
