ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 6.5 Jap. S# 5010003. S#s match on receiver, bolt and bayonet lug. Bbl. 31 1/8". Rifle was mfg. in Manchuria, now part of China at the Mukden Arsenal. "Mum" has been removed leaving the Type 38 characters. Left side of the receiver has the circular Mukden Arsenal marking. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2400 meters. Inverted V front sight with protective ears. Straight bolt handle with oval knob. Checkered small tang safety knob. Dust cover made with internal stop. 24" cleaning rod. Upper band with bayonet lug. Hardwood stock set with 2 piece buttstock construction. Bottom swivels. Brown leather sling with brass buckle. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Type 30 bayonet with 15 5/8" blued steel blade. Right ricasso has unknown makers mark with the Kokura Arsenal as the supervising agency. Curved quillon. Hardwood grips retained by two rivets. Flat sided pommel with slight birds head. Steel scabbard with cylindrical tip. Leather frog. Scabbard has been cleaned with lightly oxidized appearance. Frog has light wear and staining. Bayonet retains most of its blue finish. Grips have moderate wear and handling marks. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear and numerous handling marks. Small chip in crack on right side of receiver tang. Metal retains 80% of its blued finish with thinning and light wear. Dust cover retains little original finish. Very good shiny bore. PROVANANCE: the Collection of Curtis H. Halvorson. (23-5904/RW).
