CIRCA 1859-1860 OF NEW YORK CITY MILITIAMEN. 18" x 9.5" Image size in larger frame from office of late Michael MacAfee, Curator of History, West Point Museum. Eight distinguished soldiers with 1855 rifle muskets, backpacks, Model 1851 helmets and rarely seen bear skin busby headgear. CONDITION: fair, yellowed, tear and chipped area above subjects, chipped area on arm of 3rd soldier from right, photographer has repaired with pen & ink and outlined areas for better contrast. There is a 2nd copy of same image behind this one in frame in damaged condition with no inked highlights that was used as frame backing. The plastic lenses in frame is scratched and scuffed. Very unusual images were expensive to produce in 1860. (02-17019/JS). $600-800.
