REAR SIGHT. Cal. 8x57 (8mm Mauser). S# 67554a. Bbl. 23 1/2". Blade front sight w/ protective hood. V-notch sheet metal rear sight. Rare late war K98k made in Czechoslovakia under German occupation. Receiver top is marked "Mod. 98" & "swp 45" denoting production by Waffenwerke Brunn I in 1945. Right side of the receiver has two "63" Waffenamts. Matching numbers on bolt handle, cocking piece & bolt sleeve. Bolt sleeve number appears bright as is common for these late Brunn guns. Other visible parts are unnumbered as is typical. Underside of bolt has proper eagle "63" Waffenamt, trigger guard is marked "qnw" & floorplate "byf". Mix of phosphate & blued finishes. Laminated stock set w/ left sling provisions & leather sling. CONDITION: stock set has nice late wear chatter w/ a pair of neatly plugged sling swivel holes on underside, some lamination separations on butt, a few areas of black staining, some finish loss from improper band removal, scattered dings & handling wear. Metal retains 90% original blue & phosphate w/ some light oxidation & scattered fading. Action functions properly. Bright near excellent bore. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. Fred Novy, ASAC.
