RIFLE. Cal. 22 S, L & LR. S# 328201. Rare, optional 28" round barrel with Watson Sporting globe front sight (fine post with bead) with beveled profile, M.S.A. folding leaf rear barrel sight plus M.S.A. tang sight. Mfg. 1905 (1897-1922) with special barrel length having "Fire-Arms" (rather than 1 word) legend marking with March 1, 1892 as last patent date; no caliber markings. Tang marked "MARLIN." over "MODEL '97"; tang sight marked "M3" with large target disc; identified for Models 1892 (22 cal.), 97, 27, 25 and 29. Second variation with flat topped receiver factory drilled and tapped for Hepburn receiver sight; plug screws installed. Plain straight gripped walnut stock set with checkered Marlin logo hard rubber rifle buttplate. Aftermarket sling swivel set in toe line of buttstock plus clamped to barrel and magazine tube. Left side of receiver has 3 non factory drilled and tapped 8-40 scope mounting holes with plug screws. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Marlin factory letter. CONDITION: fair patina appearance of cleaned oxidation. Breech bolt has very good blued finish. Stock has numerous handling marks plus gouge on right front of forend; appears original finish. Rear sight of similar finish missing its position spring plus inoperative latch. Front globe sight has been impacted on its top to make the viewed shape appear oblong. Hammer has been welded at spur area plus in area that strikes firing pin. Proper mechanical functioning and near excellent bright bore. (26-1853/NW). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
