Cal. 50. NSN. Model 1870 Trapdoor Carbines are very scarce with only 341 made. Standard configuration, 22" barrel, spring retained single barrel band, adjustable rear sight, breech block marked: "1870 / eaglehead & crossed arrows / U.S.", utilizing 1864 dated Civil War surplus Springfield lock. Saddle ring bar mounted opposite lock. Few of this pattern have come to auction in last 10 years. CONDITION: very good overall, cleaned metal, light pitting, mechanics fine, good rifled bore, stock is worn and eroded rear of saddle bar, brass front blade sight was trimmed.
