PISTOLS. Cal. 56. NSN. Bbls. 8 1/2" oct. 15" Overall. Interesting cased pair of saw handle flintlock dueling pistols marked "E C STORM" on locks & "NEW ORLEANS" on bbls. Platinum & gold bands at breech. Platinum lined touch holes. Single set triggers. Engraved triggerguard w/ finger spurs. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: casing includes a form fitted case for gold daguerreotype brooch. Label on brooch case “E C STORM / IMPORTER AND DEALER IN WATCHES, JEWELRY, SILVERWARE & FANCY GOODS, NO. 4 CHARTRES STREET NEW ORLEANS”. Edward C. Storm (1812-1850) is listed in Kit Gorman’s New Orleans Gunsmith book as fancy goods store in New Orleans advertising, he sold pistols in 1836. Brass banded mahogany casing has inset engraved plaque “EDWARD CHARLES STORM / 1836 New Orleans”. Casing is fitted w/ flask & mold & central lidded compartment holds the cased brooch. CONDITION: very good overall, both guns appear complete & original, no finish. Damascene design on bbls. partially visible. Grips have hand worn patina w/ scattered cosmetic blemishes. Mechanically functional w/ pitted smooth bores. PROVENANCE: Collection of John Montague. (01-20739/JS). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
