Cal. 7.65mm Roth-Sauer. S# C225. Bbl. 4". Designed by Karel Krnka and financially backed by George Roth, only a few thousand Model 1905 pistols were produced before production ceased, with the 1905's successor, the Roth-Steyr Model 1907, finding greater success just a couple of years later. This example, mfg. by J.P. Sauer & Sohn, is marked "J.P. SAUER & SOHN, SUHL" over the top of the bbl., with "PATENT/ ROTH" marked over the chamber, and J.P. Sauer's logo marked behind the rear sight. A double-crowned "U" proof is stamped on the left side of the chamber, bbl., as well as on the bolt assembly. Full S# "C225" is marked on the butt. Frame/bbl. exhibits a lustrous high polish blue finish, with some smaller components being polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece J.P. Sauer logo checkered black hard rubber grips. Half-moon blade front sight with V-notch rear sight. Nearly all numbers are matching and include the frame (interior and exterior), sideplate, internal mag. housing, follower, trigger, bolt assembly, chamber, bbl., as well as the remaining serialized internal small parts. Grips do not match. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning, as well as scattered superficial handling marks and surface oxidation / light pitting overall. In-the-white components exhibit scattered spots of age-related discoloration but are otherwise very good overall. Mirror bore, exhibiting strong rifling throughout. Grips exhibit some smoothing, as well as some scattered superficial marks from handling and storage, with the left grip exhibiting a chip to the top left corner of the panel, as well as a couple of cracks on the butt. A nice example of an infrequently encountered Roth-Sauer Model 1905 pistol. (24-4039/MLW). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
