THOMAS, GRISWOLD NEW ORLEANS. 29.5” Blade stamped on ricasso: “THOMAS, GRISWOLD / NEW ORLEANS”. This is unique pattern made by the large New Orleans sword manufacture that is one of eight documented examples. Beautiful example “as found” with traces of gold wash on hilt & scabbard mounts. CONDITION: very good-fine overall, blade is gray with maker mark partially struck on top line as seen in photo. Scabbard appears to have grown up with sword with good fit and similar patina and traces of gold wash but is not Confederate made. Grip retains over 90% original leather and tight twisted brass wire wrap. PROVENANCE: Cullen Smith estate collection. (02-17233/JS). $15,000-20,000.
