This most unusually large 7" rum horn w/ pewter spout looks like it would hold a pint, 3 1/2" base. Scrimshawed on one side is a lg. British coat of arms & circling above it: “THOs JOHNSON ONYDALAK 1762”. This French & Indian War horn may have been carved at one of the forts near what is now Oneida Lake, as the name is more difficult to decipher than normal. CONDITION: good to very good overall, surface is worn but details all easily discerned, minor erosion & insect damage, good patina. Base plug is leather stopper. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of John "Tim" Breth Jr. (02-13780/JS). $2,000-3,000.
