ANDERSONVILLE. Jonathan Wesley Alcorn (1842-1864) enlisted in 18th PA cavalry, Sept. 8, 1862. Note the Wm. Frank Browne 5th Michigan Cav Photographer’s label on back. Very few are known by this field photographer. Sixth plate in great condition w/ good detail showing 21 year old stern faced Jonathan decked out in cavalry gear: full field uniform; sword belt w/ over-the-shoulder strap; cavalry saber w/ attached leather sword knot; cap box; 2 Colt 1860 Army revolvers; tall cavalry boots; holding forage cap. He was captured at Brandy Station Oct 11, 1863, imprisoned at Andersonville where he died of disease Sept. 18, 1864. He is buried in Andersonville National Cemetery grave # 9150. CONDITION: very good overall, tape stains on verso, slight bends do not affect aesthetic. (02-16226/JS). $800-1,200.
