TARGET WITH FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 22. S# MT13899. Bbl. 6 5/8". 1 of only approx. 4,000 First Series Woodsman Match Target semi-automatic pistols mfg. by Colt sold to the U.S. Army & Navy during WWII. The left side of the slide bbl. is marked "MATCH/ (BULLSEYE)/ TARGET, with Colt's mfg. and patent information marked across the top. The left side of the frame is marked "THE WOODSMAN" above a U.S. crossed cannons proof marked, with typical factory markings present on the left side of the slide. Right side of the frame is marked with a U.S. "G.H.D." (Guy H. Drewry) inspection proof. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with the top strap of the bbl. and slide, as well as the rear of the slide and upper frame exhibiting a matte blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece elongated Colt checkered brown plastic grips. Pinned Patridge blade front sight, with dovetailed adj. square notch rear sight. MAGS: 1 blued 10-rd. marked "COLT WOODSMAN/ CAL. 22 L.R./ MATCH TARGET MOD." on the floorplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter indicating that this example was shipped to "United States Goverment/ Officer in Charge/ Naval Supply Depot/ Norfolk, VA" on September 14th of 1943 in a shipment of 525 same type pistols. Pistol is also accompanied by a reproduction military style cardboard box. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original blue finish, showing light to mild edge wear, some superficial marks and scratches, as well as some scattered spots of light pitting on the right side of the frame, slide, and bbl. Mirror bore, retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips are excellent. Reproduction box is excellent overall.
