SWORD. 25.25", 19 3/4" double edged blade with raised medial ridge that narrows sharply at hilt . The sculpted sand cast grip is distinct with 10 ridges & turned down 4” cross guard. The late R. E. “Sonny” Neville respected dealer/collector attributed this scarce pattern to Mobile, Alabama and there is captured example from Ft. Morgan. Some are known stamped with large “CS”. At the beginning of the Civil War, the South had few armories and few factories capable of producing arms. Several small arms manufacturers began operations across the vast Southern landscape. This sword is a product of one of those small Southern arms manufacturers that sprang up to fill the needs of the Confederacy. The finest example of this sword was sold on theses floors as lot 1060B, March 14, 2010. CONDITION: good overall, heavy iron patina and pitting to blade. Brass smooth chocolate brown. (02-19079/JS). $2,000-2,500.
