DANIEL. Cal. 40 rifled. NSN. Bbl. 35 3/4" full oct. signed "A. DANIEL". The percussion lock is marked "WARRANTED". The rifle has dbl. set triggers & a 4 piece brass patchbox w/ 11 piercings w/ door engraved "J. YAGER", possibly the original owner. Rifle has curly maple stock. The football shaped sideplate is engraved "No. 54". A. Daniel is listed in some reference books in Lancaster & apparently later moved to the upper Susquehanna school ca. 1840 where this gun was made. CONDITION: the rifle appears to be in all original condition throughout. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing. (01-19601/RG). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
