PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Browning Long. S# 55955. Bbl. 5". 1 of only 1,694 Model 1909 semi-automatic pistols mfg. by Webley & Scott. The left side of the slide is marked with the Webley & Scott winged bullet logo above "W&S", followed by Webley's mfg. information and the cal. designations. Underside of the frame is marked with an arrow within a "U" which likely indicates issue to the South African Defense Force. Bottom of rear grip strap is stamped "5/ 3". Frame, slide, and bbl. exhibit small British commercial proofs. Metal components exhibit a high polish blue finish overall, save for on the trigger, trigger guard, and hammer, which appear to be polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered black vulcanite grips. Fixed half-moon blade front sight, with horizontally adj. V-notch rear sight. Frame features a grip safety, with a lanyard ring plate mounted on the left side beneath the grip panel. Matching numbers are present on the frame, trigger, slide, and bbl. Interior of slide is also marked "890". MAGS: 1 8-rd. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, showing areas of wear and thinning fading to gray patina, scattered superficial handling marks, as well as scattered spots of light surface oxidation and pitting. Grip straps, trigger guard, and rear of grip safety exhibit a dark gray patina. Bore exhibits consistent moderate pitting with discernible polygonal rifling throughout. Grips show scattered marks from handling and storage, with the right grip exhibiting 2 cracks at the rear edge of the panel. (25-3550/MLW). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
