A superb example of a rare Seebataillon or Naval Infantry shako of the Imperial German Forces. This shako has a black leather body covered in fine black felt. Both the front & rear visors are black leather, as is the crown. There is an exceptional heavily gilded Seebataillon front plate attached to the front. A finely done silver bullion navy field badge with black ring and red center is mounted above the eagle. The chinstrap features flat scalloped scales alternating between 2 and 3 scallops throughout the length of the chinstrap. The chinstrap buckles in the front and is terminated by 2 decorative round side bosses. The interior of the front visor is black and the rear visor is green. Wide brown leather scallop topped sweatband with 2-piece red silk liner. CONDITION: shako shows light wear overall. Visors are strong. Field badge is solid. Front plate is extraordinary.
