Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 17254 (circa 1910). 26" bbls. w/ slightly raised matted rib are marked "PROOF TESTED 12 GA." & w/ chamber information on top right & w/ Savage Arms Corp. info & address on left. Bbl. flats stamped w/ S#, Fox proofs & "GRADE BE". Case hardened early Fox action features non automatic safety & dbl. triggers. Action engraved w/ geometric devices & a scattering of scroll w/in vine borders surrounding scenes of birds on sides w/ a quail on left & snipe on right. Trigger guard has some scroll on bow & S# on tang. Replacement straight grip buttstock of crotch figured American walnut measures 15" over brown "Old English" pad. Side panels are checkered & point pattern checkering is at grip. Lg. matching beavertail ejector forend has Deeley type Fox release. Ejector patent dates are on iron. MEASUREMENTS: bbls.: bore diameter: right: .727", left: .727". Restriction: right: .008" (IC), left: .020" (MOD). Minimum Wall Thickness: right: .050", left: .050". STOCK: DAH: 2". DAC: 1 3/16". LOP: 15". CAST: 0. WEIGHT: 8 lbs. 7 oz. CONDITION: very fine as refurbished. It is possible that this early action has been completely rebuilt by Savage Arms Corp., retaining all finishes on wood & metal applied at that time w/ only a few scattered subsequent marks. Bbls. are obviously new, bores are bright & shiny. Action is very tight w/ top lever well to right of center. Ejectors are in time. (21-3981/MGM). CURIO. $2,000-4,000.
