RIFLE. CAL. 45-70. S# NSN. Mfg. 1880-83 with approx 5000 produced. This was Remington's first production of a bolt action firearm. Major components are blued with small parts being case hardened. Case hardened components have faded with colors remaining in the most sheltered locations only and fine old freckled oxidation present. Crisp markings. Original walnut stock has scattered handling marks and some heavier dings. There are two screws plugged in the top of the wrist with evidence of a tang style sight that has since been removed and a fine hairline crack extending from the forward screw to the tang.
