PERCUSSION REVOLVER. Cal. 44. S# 90071 (beneath left grip panel). Bbl. 8". Model 1858 New Army single action percussion revolver, mfg. by Remington. Top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked with Remington's patent and mfg. information above "NEW MODEL". Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall. Brass trigger guard. Frame is mounted with two smooth wood grips. Blade front sight with frame-notched rear sight. Matching numbers are present on the frame and underside of the bbl. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to a gray patina, with oxidation and pitting present overall. Brass trigger guard exhibits a dark brown patina. Very bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots of pitting while retaining strong rifling throughout. Action functions and cyl. indexes appropriately when cycled by hand, with the hammer holding in both the half-cock and full-cock positions. Grips exhibit scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with the left panel exhibiting a large repair at the rear and the right panel exhibiting a small repair at the lower left corner.
