BAYONET. Cal. 58, NSN. Standard configuration of the popular Remington brass mounted Civil War rifle, 33" blued barrel marked at breech "1863'. Proof marks are different from vast majority of survivors. In addition to "STEEL" on left side, "BH" barrel inspection at back left, on top of barrel: "US" / "VP"-eagle head / "CP". 2 leaf 3 position rear sight, inset domed blade front sight, and saber bayonet lug. Case colored lock stamped with eagle and "REMINGTON'S / ILION, NY" and "1863" at tail. Brass furniture and straight grain stock with 2 inspector cartouches. Set of 3 initials "J.T.E." are stamped on tool box, lock, and twice on stock. CONDITION: very good to fine overall, complete & matching. Barrel retains strong traces of factory blue finish mixed with plum/brown iron patina with pitting at breech. Brass has light mustard color. Stock is sound and solid, hand worn patina, both cartouches are visible. Mechanically fine, rifled bore is dirty and corroded. PROVENANCE: Lifelong Collection of Robert "Mike" Bricker. (01-24933/JS).
