SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 44-40. S# 611 found on left inside of grip frame. Bbl. 7 1/2" with blade front sight. 6-shot fluted cyl. The Model 1875 is readily identified by its distinctive webbed ejector housing beneath the bbl. Full nickel finish. Frame and cyl. have distinctive cattle brand hand engraving. Sides of frame and cyl. have stippled backgrounds bordering the brands, while the top strap and back strap retain nickel finish around the cattle brands. Bbl. has cattle brand and steer head engraving on the right side up to the single line Remington legend with a ribbon of engraving on the left side. 2-piece ivory grips. The caliber 44 marking is found on the left rear of the trigger guard. An estimated quantity of 25,000-30,000 were mfg. from 1875-1889. Early production were numbered in sequence. After approx. 14,000 they were numbered primarily in 3-digit batches accounting for many low numbered specimens. CONDITION: except for the sides of the frame and the cyl. with stippled backgrounds other areas of the frame, bbl., and web retain a large amount of nickel finish showing handling marks and small dark spots. Grips have yellowed with age showing checking and cracks. Inside of grips have glued synthetic spacers along the backstrap to ensure proper fit. Action has stiff operation. Cyl. shows slight side play. Pitted bore retains largely intact rifling. (01-27268/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
